HE Hamdun Abdullah, a graduate of economics from the American University of Beirut, Lebanon, has been a Member of Parliament and served in senior positions in the Ministry of Planning in the Maldives for 27 years. He was Minster of Planning and National Development from 2003 -2008. This is his first posting in the diplomatic corp.

From 2008-2010 he went on to serve as Deputy Leader of the political party—Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) and was a Member of Parliament IInguraiahu Constituency from 2009 to 2014; he was also Member of the Council and Strategic Committee of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) from 2011-2014. HE Hamdun Abdullah has participated in the formulation of directives such as the Maldives National Development Plans, the Integrated Atoll Development Plan, the Strategic Economic Plan, the National Human Rights Action Plan (NHRAP) 2008 as well as the Presidential Manifest (2013) of the Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM).

HE has been a Member of the National Planning Council, the Gender Equity Council, the Foreign Investment Advisory Board, the Tourism Advisory Board and the Agricultural Board; he has also served on the Cabinet Committee on Governance and Administration.

His vast body of experience has positioned him as Chair of prestigious agendas such as the Maldives Vision 2020 Task Force, the National Population Board and the Cabinet Committee on Economic Development. In the course of his various voluntary works he has served as ExCo/Founder member of Beam (Environmental NGO—Biodiversity Education and Awareness Maldives, as well as the Ex Co/Founder Member of Fushan—1st National NGO in Community Development.

HE creative side finds expression in poetry (was the winner of the Presidential Award for poetry in 1997), has composed national school and event theme songs and was the Producer/Directors of the Presidential Award winning choral group Gagunasthoram.

He is married and has two sons.
